Hillz Fundraiser – Sells out!

On Saturday 18th April Hillz put on our first fundraising event of 2015. With great support from volunteers alike we put together an event flowing with the music we love! With DJ sets from our very own Eddie Gootimes, Neol Davies and the William Brother’s the night was in demand. Overall we raised over £700 which will go towards improving the facilities and output of Hillz 98.6FM.

Sell out!

With doors opening at 4pm and Eddie Goodtimes kicking off the evening of events the crowd was already drawing at Knights (2 Tone Village) on Ball Hill, resulting in our last ticket being sold by 4.20pm! After only anticipating to sell half the allocated tickets the night was already in success with the pride shared across the Hillz team.

With the opportunity for extra allocation sales continued until unfortunately we were having to turn away anyone without a ticket after 6.30pm. It was great to see visitors coming from as far afield as Bristol for a night of great music.

Live Acts

Our first act of the night Danny Ansell gave a great acoustic set with music coming from his three albums, created on the Glasslip record label owned by Hillz FM’s Keith Fabrique. Danny had the crowd hooked on his alternative indie songs, including from his album due to be released in June ‘Long Story Short’. Danny regularly performs around Coventry, so catch him again soon. Listen in to Keith Fabrique’s Rock Show on Wednesdays from 12pm-2pm to hear more from Danny.

Our second live act, an up and coming band from Coventry Rooted and Booted! Recently returning from the high of performing at Skamouth earlier in April, they had everyone moving. The six piece Reggae, Acoustic, Ska and Dub inspired group are a gem with the set including ‘Skylarkin’ and ‘Stand in line’ this group bring something completely fresh to the future music scene in Coventry. We hope that Rooted and Booted will join us on Hillz when their EP is released and for a catch up, they have many gigs planned across the UK over the coming months so if you missed them, there will be plenty a chance to catch them again.

DJ Sets

Hillz DJ’s did us proud in keeping the party going offering a great ska, reggae and dub vibe. Being out of the studio and behind the dec’s allowed the public to see the DJ’s in their elements. It was a real team effort as music was shared among colleagues.

More events

Hillz hopes that this is just the start of our fundraising events and hopes to have more scheduled soon for throughout 2015. We thank you for your continued support as without you the listeners and followers Hillz would not have been able to grow to the success it has while being a community radio station for the last 6 years. Thank you for all of those that offered their time for free including acts and the support of Knights venue and Simmer Down Restaurant.
