A platform for Coventry and Warwickshire emerging artists
SHOOT FESTIVAL is back and we are looking for early career artists to perform. Applications are now open and we’re encouraging theatre makers, dancers, poets, performers, musicians or anything in between who are based in Coventry and Warwickshire to be part of it.
We welcome applications from any live art form or music genre for our Performance Programme and Sound Stage. Participating artists/companies will receive a £100 fee. Plus there’s an opportunity to win our Artist Development Award worth £1000 (£500 cash and £500 of mentorship), which will be decided by a panel of professional artists based in the area.
SHOOT FESTIVAL is a platform for Coventry and Warwickshire’s early career performers and musicians to showcase their talent. We are committed to working exclusively with artists based in the CV-postcode who want to take their artistic practice to the next level. SHOOT FESTIVAL is an opportunity for successful applicants to get paid, build connections and to receive ongoing mentoring and support.
Taking place 4 – 7 April 2019 in various venues across the city including The Belgrade Theatre, The Tin, The Shop Front Theatre and an outdoor performance area in the city centre’s Bull Yard. Shoot Festival Directors Jennifer Davis and Paul O’Donnell said, “Since our first event in 2014, Shoot has developed so much. It’s now an established event in Coventry’s cultural calendar and plans are well under way for next year. We’re going to be supporting more artists than ever before.”
Richard Walls who won the Artist Development Award in 2014 and has received ongoing support from the festival said, “Shoot Festival expanded the possibilities for me as an artist and it continues to do so. I urge anyone with even the seed of an idea to apply.”
The festival is fertile ground for sowing seeds of future collaborations, as experienced by Chris O’Connell, Artistic Director of Theatre Absolute. “Performing at the first Shoot Festival were two break dancers we’d probably have never met – Marius and Andrei. Immediately we knew we wanted to work with them so we applied to ACE for funds and in 2016 we made ‘Traum’.”
For any artists in Coventry and Warwickshire looking for an opportunity germinate their career, Shoot Festival is definitely worth a shot. The deadline for artist applications is 5pm on Thursday 20 December 2018.
