Over the past couple of years, Coventry City Centre has undergone a vast transformation. Old landmarks have disappeared to be replaced by modern facilities designed to make our fair city a more attractive place to visit. The next stage of the widespread upgrades have moved a step closer with the unveiling of plans for a flashy new water park and leisure centre, to be built on New Union Street.
Pictures released show what the citizens of Coventry can expect from this new facility, which could cost up to £37M. The centre will include a 25 metre swimming pool complete with water slides, as well as a gym, sports courts and a spa. Coventry City Council are hoping to open the venue in late 2018 as a replacement for the Coventry Sports and Leisure Centre, which according to reports is currently losing £2,000 per day! Despite this alarming statistic, 11,000 people have signed a petition to keep the famous elephant shaped building intact.
