Hillz FM proudly hosted the launch event for the 2016 Positive Images Festival. Events, workshops and activities are taking across around the city over the next few weeks in celebration of the heritage and multi-cultism in Coventry, and this was the kick start.
The Positive Images Festival masked the rain and frosty wind to create a colourful blanket that enclosed Smithford way. This year’s festival was launched by the Lord Mayer of Coventry, Lindsley Harvard, and the city’s own Lady Godiva- Pru Porretta. The festival showcased many performances and stalls in the surrounding area. The Positive Images Festival is definitely a cohesion of community in action and only brings everyone closer together.
The Coventry Food Justice Network was present including- Coventry Men’s Shed, Coventry Refugee & Migrant Centre, Coventry University Centre for Agroecology Water and Resilience, The Pod and Food Union. Where there was a food extravaganza and included recipes for healthy eating and also tips on how to minimally waste so that we can create a fairer and greener food system.
As you can see there was a diverse selection at the Positive Images Festival and this doesn’t even include the performances! Despite the weather it was a fantastic event which promoted many cultural traditions, heritages and also informed the public of the different charities and projects present near and in Coventry. So, the Positive Images Festival was once again a success and I look forward to seeing the community continue to celebrate the different cultures and heritages.
