About the Show

Joel’s Jukebox

Joel’s Jukebox is a brand-new show on Hillz 98.6FM! You can listen to the broadcast every Sunday afternoon between 2 and 3 pm!

The show has been designed to celebrate some of the world’s best loved entertainers who have made a significant contribution or continue to make a significant contribution to the world’s entertainment industries.

After lockdown I learned that places like theatres and cinemas were struggling to get audiences to go and watch the events they put on such as tribute nights, plays, pantomimes, special screenings for events like Halloween and Christmas, Music and tours with famous faces, Comedy, brand-new films and much much more. I hope that my “Jukebox” becomes a great way for people to learn about what is going on in the local community as well as in the world of entertainment.

As well as the entertainment in your local community, the show has also been designed to celebrate some of the great contributions that entertainers from the past have made to British culture. As well as celebrating some of the great entertainment of today, I think it’s just as important to celebrate the past contributions of great performances and inform people as to why we must keep their legacies alive.

I know that some people cannot afford to go to the theatre as regularly as they would like, so my hope for the show’s future is for my audience to use it as a way to access this genre of music!

I also hope the show will expose you to music you’ve never heard before and encourage you to go to the theatre!

Tune in every week to Joel’s Jukebox on Sundays between 2 and 3 pm!

Jukebox Gem – Weekly Game Feature

Jukebox Gem is a section of my show where I play a game with the listener and they are given three clues to successfully name a performer, singer, musical theatre star, comedian, writer or movie soundtrack. After I have given the three clues, I will play a song associated with the person chosen as my Jukebox Gem. This may be taken from a particular period in their life, it might be from a movie they were in, a musical theatre show the person wrote, directed or starred in, or they might have had a number one hit with it back in the day!

I will be talking a bit about my Jukebox Gems’ life and career, to give you an insight into some of the greatest performances of all time and perhaps share some facts you might not already know along the way!

It’s my version of the Hall of Fame for some of my entertainment heroes.

Previous recipients of the Jukebox Gem have included:

Sarah Harding – Singer and Actress

Mel Brooks – Comedy Legend and Movie Director

All these people have made a significant contribution to the entertainment industry and in my opinion deserve to be called Jukebox Gems.

Tune in to find out who is this week’s Jukebox Gem!

BRAND NEW FEATURE:

Joker in the pack

The UK charts have been a part of our lives for almost 75 years, since 1952 many songs have stayed as earworms in our heads for lots of different reasons.

However, there is always one that you either choose to forget or try to remember but never can.

Joker In The Pack is a brand-new feature on my show in which I celebrate the songs that everyone has either forgotten about, chosen to forget or even better, have never been released until now.

For example, can you name every one of Kylie‘s hits, Madonna, or the Beatles? All these bands have had so many hits between them, It’s easy to forget them every now and again.

This new feature is about jogging the memory of the listener (whether you want it or not) showcasing songs you didn’t know you needed or even existed!

There’s everything to choose from singing soap stars to good old novelty records, bad boy bands, great girl bands and who can forget the good old charity single or Christmas number one!

So join me each week as I pick one tune, and tell you some of the tales behind it –  that’s Joel‘s Joker In The Pack – tune in every Sunday to Joel’s Jukebox between 2 and 3 o’clock in the afternoon!
