It is no secret that the introduction of streaming has influenced the way we interact with music. The rise of algorithms and artificial intelligence has shaped an increasingly hostile environment towards smaller and local artists, pushing them away from the zeitgeist due to low streaming figures and in turn affecting indie venues. Which is why Independent Venue Week, a campaign that is taking place all across the UK from the 26th of January to the 1st of February, is so important. Coventry’s The Tin Music and Arts is one of the venues to take part in this amazing endeavour.
Established as The Tin in August of 2013, the venue has “committed to creating a thriving, artistic hub” for the city, housing a creative powerhouse for both local and international acts. Spaces such as these are quite rare and precious in our fast-moving, hustle-focused world, for both the creative seeking refuge from an increasingly art exclusionary world and the consumer looking for a reprieve from the ever-accelerating pace of life. Jessica Harper, Marketing Manager at The Tin Music and Arts says “Independent Venue Week is a crucial celebration of grassroots music, and this year we’ve brought together an incredible lineup for one of our biggest editions yet. IVW is the perfect excuse to step out and experience live music this winter”.
The lineup for Independent Venue Week at the Tin is well and truly something to write home about, featuring a wide and diverse range of acts so you’re bound to find something that takes your fancy. Below is a copy of said lineup.
- Wednesday: Indie favourites The Orielles open the week with an energetic live set.
- Thursday: Big Sexy Noise, featuring cult hero Lydia Lunch, who joins forces with Gallon Drunk for a powerful night of alt-rock performance.
- Friday: Coventry supergroup Main Sheriff headline, with support from Permanent Daylight and Fool & Danger.
- Saturday:
o Matinee: Folk performance from Hedera
o Evening: Ellipse presents Karma Sheen, blending psychedelic and Hindustani influences to close the week.
