Coventry, UK — After nearly 20 years, local band Reverb are set to reunite for a one-off charity event over 2 nights, in support of a cause close to their hearts. On 27th December, the four school friends Ross Darby, Chris Newman, Luke Casey and Ciaran Corkerry, will perform at Christ the King Club in Coundon, in memory of their close friend and brother, Adam Keane, who passed away in July at 38 years old, following a brave battle with a brain tumour.
Once a regular name on the local music scene, Reverb played at beloved and now lost Coventry venues like the General Wolfe, Hope and Anchor, and Jailhouse before disbanding in 2007 to focus on family and other music projects.
In 2020, the band’s lifelong friend Adam Keane was diagnosed with a brain tumour. Despite enduring multiple surgeries, radiotherapy, and chemotherapy, his bravery and enduring positivity inspired everyone around him. The band came together earlier this year to release their previously recorded works as a charity album, alongside four songs they had never recorded before which they recorded at 14 Records in Leamington Spa. This reunion marked the first time in 10 years the band had played together and the first time in 17 years that they had recorded new music. The album, released on Adam’s birthday on 13th July, has already raised over £1,500 for The Brain Tumour Charity showing the love and support for Adams fight.
Although Adam tragically passed later that month, the band decided to follow through on their plans for a charity gig in his honour. “His commitment to his family and friends, despite all the challenges, was incredible. He still loved his music, and this is our way of giving back,” the band said in a statement.
The event will take place at Christ the King Club, a venue that holds sentimental value to members of the band. “I spent years working behind the bar there’ said drummer Ciaran ‘My old gaffer Frank Keogh, who’s mentioned in the album tributes, always supported us and let us host gigs there, when we first started up.”
Tickets for the gig went on sale on 14th September and sold out in less than 48 hours. “It’s insane that 20 years later, there’s still a demand for four old fat blokes piecing together their old material on stage” joked guitarist Chris. “But really, the turnout is a testament to Keano more than us. He always got us together on 27th December every year, so being able to do this on the same date for him feels right.”
