On Wednesday, Skillz With Hillz participants went to Coventry University to learn how to solder. The session was led by Indie Schneider… as part of the Skillz With Hillz outing.
The participants made a circuit connecting a battery, resistors and LED with solder, a metal filler that connects metals together.
After the soldering was complete, Indie Schneider demonstrated musical fabric. It was made up different coloured electronic threads which were each connected to a different wire and an amp. When each thread was touched, a different note played.
One participant said: “I wouldn’t wear something that conducts electricity, but it would be a cool novelty… and the neon lights were wicked.”
Indie led a tour through the university’s Delia Derbyshire building.
“There was a lot of art in the building,” said work experience student Sylvie. “And as an artist I loved that.”
